Get involved in your local park

Volunteers Wanted

Do you have some spare time to volunteer in the park and become involved?

Everyone is welcome to join in.  Volunteering is the ideal chance for people to get some fresh air, learn new skills or hone old ones, or even just to socialise and meet new like-minded people. Young people under 16 years are welcome to take part in most activities but must bring their own responsible adult who will also volunteer.

We are also keen to encourage individuals or groups to come to the park to pursue their own interest whether this is wildlife surveys or photography.  Discuss your ideas with our Activity Staff on 0141-638 4121.

Conservation Volunteers

If you're looking for the perfect opportunity to help in the habitat management of Rouken Glen Park, come along and help our Activity Ranger on Conservation Volunteer Days. These occur on the last Tuesday of every month (excluding December)and dates are listed below.

Spaces on Conservation Volunteer Days are limited, so booking is essential.

If you are interested in taking part or would like more information, please contact the Activity Ranger on 0141-638 4121 or e-mail roukenglenpark@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk

All volunteers must wear suitable clothing and dress for the weather. Sturdy footwear and waterproofs are great, however if you haven't got these, you can borrow some from us!

We will have a break for lunch, so bring a packed lunch and refreshments with you.

Gardening Conservation Group

In addition, we have an Additional Needs Gardening Volunteer Group once a month, these volunteers carry out a range of work in our Wildlife Garden including planting, weeding, habitat creation and other general activities. For more information please contact the Activity Ranger on 0141-638 4121 or e-mail roukenglenpark@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk

Butterfly Transect Survey

Want to do your bit to record and conserve our butterflies for future generations?  Then this could be your perfect opportunity!  For a third year, we are supporting the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme to record butterflies at Rouken Glen Park.  It's a great excuse to get out in the fresh air and do something for your local wildlife.

Volunteers sign up for a minimum one hour survey taking place between April and September.  The survey involves walking a pre-defined route in the park and recording the species and numbers of butterflies you spot along the way.

No expertise is required, and if you're not too keen on doing it alone, you can either take a friend along with you, or we can pair you up with another willing volunteer.

Training is provided at the beginning of each transect season to allow prospective volunteers to see what is involved.  All equipment will be provided, but you may wish to bring along a pair of binoculars.  Dress appropriately for walking outdoors on grassy terrain.

For more information please contact the Activity Ranger on 0141-638 4121 or e-mail roukenglenpark@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk
